A Muslim community and worship center received approval to begin construction in Vestal on Tuesday, and is already facing opposition.
The Vestal Planning Board approved the Muslim center, which has been in the works for months. Some local residents aren’t thrilled at the idea of the building being built in their neighborhood.
Vestal residents are concerned over the logistics of construction and the structure itself. They say is not what is being built, but rather issues from storm water runoff, and sanitary sewer issues, problems that have already troubled their neighborhood with recent construction.
There are also concerns of traffic congestion with the addition of a new community center. Town Supervisor John Schaffer says that his engineer and code officials will follow up on these concerns.
