A local sailor has won a prestigious Navy award. Jarrod Birdsall of Vestal recently won the Navy’s Blue Jacket award, which recognizes an outstanding sailor. Birdsall, a graduate of Vestal High School, swam throughout his high school years so he figured he would join the Navy. He is currently stationed in Jacksonville. Birdsall was one of 300 sailors in his squadron eligible to win the award.
