Volunteer fire departments across the Southern Tier are struggling for new members, but Broome County stations are looking to change that with their third annual Open House this Saturday.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or ambulance member is invited to visit their local Broome County fire station on Saturday for more information.
The Broome County Firefighter’s Association is sponsoring the event, where they expect to receive 20 to 30 new recruits countywide.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and can receive a tax credit of $200 if they join a fire department. Some scholarships are available for high school students.
