(Vestal, NY) – Binghamton University welcomes new and returning students and their families on Aug. 18-20, with move-in days signifying the beginning of the fall semester and a new academic year.

Over 3,000 first-year students, 750 transfer students and 1,500 new graduate students are expected to join the Binghamton community. Classes for all approximately 18,600 students begin Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Binghamton received a record 58,400 applications, which includes nearly 49,500 first-year, 4,000 transfer and over 4,900 graduate student applications for fall 2023 admission.

The 49,500 undergraduate applications for acceptance into the Class of 2027 are also a new record. This 19 percent increase includes additional out-of-state and international applications.

Binghamton continues to have a diverse class, with the geographic distribution reflecting New York state’s population. About 30 percent of new students are from Upstate New York; 6 percent are from Broome and Tioga counties; 24 percent are from Long Island; and 28 percent are from New York City.

Binghamton also anticipates welcoming around 585 new international students to the campus community this fall. Approximately 125 undergraduate and 460 graduate students from over 50 countries will arrive in Binghamton, with the greatest numbers coming from India, China, Turkey, South Korea and Iran.

Around 750 highly talented transfer students with a mean GPA of 3.4 will also join the Binghamton University community this fall, including about 240 SUNY Broome Community College students, by far the largest number from any single community college. Another 220 students have signed up for the Binghamton Advantage Program, a special, dual-admission program with SUNY Broome that allows students to become part of the Binghamton University community and live on the University’s campus while attending SUNY Broome.
