Cabot Reaches Deal with Residents & DEP

A Houston-based natural gas drilling company has reached a settlement with Susquehanna County residents and Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection.
Cabot Oil and Gas has agreed to split $4.1 million among 19 different households in Dimock Township that have been unable to use their water for two years. The water is contaminated with methane, which the DEP blames on a nearby Cabot drilling site.
Once the contamination was discovered, the DEP forced Cabot to provide bottled water to the affected families. The 19 families banded together to file a lawsuit against Cabot earlier this year.
The company’s settlement will also allow them to resume drilling in the area.
