It was a somber day in Elmira as hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered to pay their respects to Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeffrey Alexander. He was on patrol in the Town of Ashland when he swerved into the opposite lane on Route 427 and crashed head on into another car. The crash killed both the deputy and the other driver, Albert Paganelli. Law enforcement officers from across the Southern Tier gathered for the deputy’s calling hours.
“We have a tough day to get through tomorrow and after that we can let the healing process begin and I think the only thing we can do is remember the great things he did and how he served his community and how he served the sheriff’s office and, he was a great guy,” said Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss.
Deputy Alexander’s funeral service was this morning.
