17-year-old charged in Southport birthday party murder

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest in the murder at a birthday party in Southport on Nov. 15.

According to police, 17-year-old Michael Williams, Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old J’Sean Williams.

The suspect and the victim are not related.

Police responded to a reported shooting at a large party on Richard Street in Southport just before 1 am on Friday, Nov. 15.

The victim was shot multiple times outside of the home. The party was for J’Sean Williams’ 21st birthday. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.

The victim passed away a short time later at a local hospital.

Michael Williams was arrested in Binghamton on a warrant from Chemung County.
