Deputies in Chemung County responded to an ATV crash in Big Flats around 4 p.m. Saturday.
A 10-year-old female passenger was pinned under the machine after the accident and had to be freed by responders. She was transported to Robert Packer Hospital for a head and facial injuries. Authorities say she was ejected from the ATV operated by 30 year-old Edward Fitzwater of Elmira. Officers don’t know how fast the ATV was traveling at the time of the incident. They say neither Fitzwater nor the ten-year-old were wearing helmets at the time of the incident. The Sheriff’s is continuing the investigation and charges are anticipated.
