A Bath man was convicted of multiple counts of attempted murder following a standoff with police in Bath last summer.
According to the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office, 52-year-old Larry J. Schoonover was found guilty of 12 counts of first-degree attempted murder, a Class A-1 felony, 12 counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm, a Class B felony, and several other related charges following a two-week trial.
Schoonover fired multiple shots from his shotgun at police from three different departments during a six-hour long standoff at his East Morris Street home in August of last year.
The standoff ended when Schoonover fled his home and opened fire on two New York State Troopers at close range. He was injured when police returned fire. Schoonover will be sentenced on Jan. 9.
