The first man who was accused in the 2021 torture-murder case in Chemung County has been sentenced.
According to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, Thomas Bovaird has been sentenced to 12 years in state prison after being convicted of manslaughter in the first degree and kidnapping in the second degree.
Bovaird was sentenced to 12 years for each count, which will run concurrently, for the kidnapping and murder of Juan Jose Gotay in January of 2021.
Bovaird was one of four individuals to be charged in the case with Eddie Marte, Malik Weems and Kavon Sanders.
