Chemung County leaders were out in front of the jail Monday morning to announce the re-accreditation of the facility. The jail was re-accredited by the New York State Sheriff’s Association. They look at policy procedures, inspections and conduct interviews with the staff.
To achieve that status, the sheriff’s office had to either meet or exceed 144 standards. This new accreditation means the county operates the facility by a strict set of guidelines. The accreditation is for five years.
