Chemung County Sheriff’s Office participating in Drug Take Back initiative

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the DEA’s Nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back initiative next month.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26th.

Chemung County residents are encouraged to turn in their expired and unused prescription medications for proper disposal. Residents are asked to keep the medications in their original container with the label intact; however, they may blacken out their name if they wish.

All medications, ointments, and sprays are accepted. They will be accepting sharps at this event.

Residents can drop off their medications at the following locations with no questions asked:

The West Elmira Volunteer Fire Department at 1299 West Water Street, and the Southport Volunteer Fire Department at 1001 Carl Street.
