The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about another phone scam that is currently making its way around the Southern Tier.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the scam involves someone pretending to be a police officer who tells victims a warrant is out for their arrest. During the call, the scammer reportedly asks the victim for money or else they would be arrested.
The sheriff’s office is reminding people to not provide any person or financial information over the phone. These calls are fraudulent. Police will never ask for money over the phone.
