The Town of Chemung Fire District No. 1 has been awarded a grant to purchase new equipment.
The local fire company will receive $309,000 from the New York State Volunteer Fire Infrastructure and Response Equipment Grant Program.
The Chemung Fire Department is one of 88 departments and municipalities from across New York who are receiving part of $25 million dollars to improve safety.
The grant program is only available to fire companies that are run by all volunteers.
