The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office reminds everybody to use caution when allowing access to your homes by utility workers. These workers should show identification and properly identifying themselves.
There has been a recent report in the Pine City area where this occurred. On February 11 about 8:00 pm, a “utility” worker went to a residence claiming there were issues with “lines in her house.” The resident denied access and the individual left in an unmarked van. The subject was white male wearing a hard hat and clothing similar to a utility person. The Sheriff’s Office has checked with NYSEG, Verizon and Spectrum who revealed no employees in that area at that time of night.
Also remember not to leave any valuable items in your vehicles. It is also important to remember to keep garages, sheds and other outbuildings secured at all times, as well as doors and windows in your home.
To report any suspicious activity please contact the Chemung County Communication Center at (607) 735-8600.
