Voters in New York State took to the polls on Tuesday to decide on their school district’s budgets for the 2025-2026 school year.

The Elmira City School District budget passed by a vote of 704 to 178.

The Elmira Heights budget passed 164 to 60.

The Horseheads School District budget failed to reach the 60 percent needed to pass due to the two percent tax levy limit.

1,201 residents or 51 percent voted in favor of the budget, while 1,159 or 49 percent voted against the $105 million dollar spending plan.

Corning-Painted Post voters also rejected the school budget.

The nearly $147 million dollar spending plan, which included a 7.89 percent tax increase received just 40 percent of the vote – well short of the 60 percent needed to pass.

2,860 residents voted against the budget, while 1,927 approved of the spending plan.
