An Elmira man has been charged with arson after he allegedly started a fire at the St. Joseph’s apartments.
According to Elmira Police, 76-year-old Martin Beebe used an accelerant to start a fire in a 5th floor apartment on Wednesday morning.
The Elmira Fire Department responded to the blaze at around 7 a.m. The fire was put out and determined to be suspicious by investigators.
Investigators believe Beebe started the fire in retaliation to an eviction notice he received.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
