An Elmira man died in what police are saying was an accident in a hotel pool on Saturday night in Elmira.
According to Elmira Police, 42-year-old Claudell Betts was pronounced dead about an hour after he was found in the pool at the Clarion Inn on East Water Street.
Police are calling it an accidental drowning with no foul play suspected.
Officers responded to the Clarion Inn at around 7:52 p.m. on Saturday night for a report of an unresponsive person in the hotel’s pool. Betts was found at the bottom of the pool.
First responders performed life-saving measures on the victim, but Betts was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:55 p.m.
The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Elmira Fire Department, Erway Ambulance Services and staff at the Clarion Inn.
