Elmira man facing arson charges

An Elmira man is facing arson charges following an incident on Wednesday night in Elmira.

According to Elmira Police, 39-year-old David E. Hodder has been charged with arson in the third degree, a Class C felony.

The charges stem from a fire at a vacant home in the area of West First Street and College Ave. The fire started at around 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police arrived to find a small amount of smoke coming from the home, and they witnessed Hodder leaving the home. The fire was quickly extinguished, and Hodder was placed under arrest.
