The Elmira Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred late Tuesday night.
According to police, a report of gun shots on Spaulding Street came in just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
A description of a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed was located by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. The car failed to comply with the stop and the subjects in the vehicle fled on foot in the area of Fulton Street.
Sheriff’s deputies were able to detain one suspect after a short foot pursuit. A number of spent shell casings were allegedly found in the vehicle and several bullet holes were located on the vehicle. A firearm was also recovered in the area.
A residence on Spaulding Street had been struck several times and spent shell casings were located in the roadway. No injuries have been reported from the incident at this time.
Police said it’s unclear if this incident is related to the shooting near Gush’s Thirsty Bear that occurred on Monday night.
