The Elmira Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning on the 300 block of Franklin Street.
According to police, they were called to a report of a shooting on Franklin Street. While searching the area, an officer found a gunshot victim near Herrick Street and Franklin Street. The victim sustained two gun shot wounds and his injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
The victim was identified as a 17-year-old male from Elmira. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers located numerous bullet holes in a nearby residence and found evidence of the shooting in and around the home. A search warrant was executed and two firearms were located.
Police were able to determine that atleast 20 bullets were fired during the incident by more than one shooter.
The investigation is still ongoing and no further information was released at this time.
The Elmira Police Department utilized drones as well as a K9 track from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department. Elmira Police were assisted by the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, Chemung County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, Elmira Heights Police Department and the West Elmira Police Department.
