The Elmira Police Department has released the body camera footage worn by an officer who shot an aggressive dog while responding to an incident last week.

According to WENY-TV, the officer was responding to a call on May 7th on Wallace Place when an unleashed dog ran directly towards the officer. The officer told the dog to get back twice before drawing his weapon and firing two shots, hitting it once.

The dog survived the incident but was later euthanized.

According to police, the same dog was deemed a dangerous dog by Elmira City Court after it attacked a neighbor unprovoked in December of 2022.  After that incident, the dog was supposed to be securely confined for the remainder of its life.

No charges have been filed at this time against the dog’s owner, but the investigation is still active.
