A former Elmira College women’s hockey play made some history earlier this month.

Sydney Harris became the fire female referee in the history of the ECHL when she officiated a game between the Utah Grizzlies and Kansas City Mavericks.

Harris is also an official in the American Hockey League and the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

Harris competed for Elmira College from 2017 to 2022. She had 36 points and 74 blocks as a defender for the Soaring Eagles, who won five conference titles and went to four NCAA Division III tournaments during her time.

She was a team captain for her final three seasons at Elmira College.
