The Elmira Fire Department’s historic Fire Station 5 on Roe Avenue will be getting some updates.

The fire station is having its wooden floor removed and replaced with concrete in an upcoming project that will begin on April 1.

The station, which was built in 1911, was updated in 2005 when they replaced windows and installed an exhaust system.

The Elmira City Council is using over $176,000 of taxpayer money to fund the project, which should be completed in two months.
