A New York State Trooper had a close call Wednesday afternoon when his patrol vehicle was sideswiped on Interstate 86 near Exit 54 in Horseheads.
State Police say the trooper had exited his vehicle to clear large debris from the eastbound passing lane when a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica struck another vehicle, lost control, and hit the parked patrol car.
The driver of the Chrysler, 76-year-old Lynn M. Tolbert, sustained minor abrasions and refused medical treatment at the scene.
State Police are reminding drivers to stay alert and use caution when approaching emergency vehicles and highway workers.
