Catholic Charities has opened a new homeless shelter in Elmira.
The new shelter opened on Wednesday at 160 High Street in Elmira.
According to WETM-TV, the previous shelter run by Catholic Charities was on College Avenue, but was shut down over two years ago due to safety concerns. This new shelter is expected to have extra security.
The new homeless shelter can house 47 people. It will be open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. On the weekends, the shelter will be open from 2 p.m. to 10 a.m. Residents will receive breakfast and dinner each day.
Residents will be expected to seek housing and job opportunities when the shelter isn’t open.
