A Newfield man has been sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for his role in a kidnapping back in 2023.
According to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, 39-year-old Joseph M. Howell was sentenced to 17 years in prison for two counts of burglary in the first degree and kidnapping in the second degree.
These crimes occurred in the Town of Van Etten in February of 2023. Howell was one of three people charged in the incident.
Howell will serve the 17 years following his previous sentence of 25 years to life for his recent murder conviction in Tioga County, New York. Howell was one of more than a dozen people charged in the kidnapping and death of Thomas Rath in May of 2023.
