Following a three-hour standoff yesterday afternoon, law enforcement in Chemung County were able to apprehend a man who barricaded himself inside a home with a loaded rifle. Chemung County Sheriff’s deputies reported to 1009 Caton Avenue in the town of Southport for a domestic dispute involving a violation of an order of protection. When deputies arrived to the home, they found a man, later identified as Steven Moretz, had barricaded himself inside the home with a loaded rifle. It took nearly three hours for Moretz to surrender to officials without incident. The sheriff’s office special service unit, Elmira SWAT Team and New York State Police assisted at the scene. The investigation is continuing.
