Police: Meth lab explodes in Chemung County

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office responded to an explosion at a residence on Veteran Hill Road in the Town of Veteran on Saturday evening.

According to police, the explosion occurred inside a detached garage at the residence and the homeowner suffered severe burns to a significant portion of his upper body.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the explosion was caused by the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

Police executed a search warrant and a quantity of methamphetamine and lab equipment were seized.

The homeowner was airlifted to the Lehigh Valley hospital. The Sheriff’s Office said criminal charges are expected.
