The public is invited to visit an active demonstration of skill, technology, and public service at the Amateur Radio Field Day exercise June 28 and 29 at Harris Hill Park, Big Flats, NY. Local “hams” will be operating a temporary radio station W2ZJ at building H3 and Cabin 5 next to the National Soaring Museum. Hundreds of contacts will be made with other stations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

There will be 24 hours of continuous operation from 2:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

The theme for this year is “Radio Connects” emphasizing the role of amateur radio in connecting people and communities.

Our country has been faced with severe weather challenges including fires , tornadoes, and flooding. The upcoming hurricane season is expected to be very active. Emergency communications will be critical and radio operators are trained and prepared to help. With the Amateur Radio Association of the Southern Tier, it’s easy for anybody to get involved. Stop by, bring the family, and learn more about this exciting hobby and community service opportunity. You might even try your hand at making a radio contact.
