SOUTHPORT — New York State Police have identified the kayaker who died on Seeley Creek in Southport over the weekend.
According to police, 44-year-old Shawn R. McWhorter of Pine City died after his kayak capsized at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
McWhorter was eventually removed from the water, but was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The two other individuals he was kayaking with were able to get to shore safely.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
