A 25-year-old Steuben County woman has been indicted for murder after her alleged victim died from his stab wounds.

According to the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office, Annika Szathmary has been charged with second degree murder in the death of 53-year-old William Pyrell.

District Attorney Brooks Baker said Szathmary confessed to stabbing the victim in the back and heart on May 3 in the Town of Pulteney.

Police say they found Szathmary in the victim’s home with the murder weapon.

She was initially charged with attempted murder after the victim was found alive and transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He later succumbed to his injuries and the charges were upgraded.

Szathmary is being held at the Steuben County Jail without bail.
