Tuesday was the opening day of the trial of the woman accused of injuring a Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator last year.
Opening statements were delivered and several people testified in the trial of Fatiuana Massaline, who is facing charges of second-degree assault and assault on a police officer.
She is accused of driving the car that hit a sheriff’s investigator on March 29, 2024 after Dominick Haley allegedly tried to steal items from Target in Big Flats.
The investigator suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. He was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where he spent 47 days before being transported to an in-patient rehab in Rochester.
Haley pleaded guilty to assault of a police officer, assault in the second degree and petit larceny. He will be sentenced in April.
Massaline’s trial continues today at 9 am.
