Two arrested after hit-and-run incident that critically injured investigator

Two people have been arrested following a hit-and-run incident on Friday night in Big Flats that left one Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator in critical condition.

The sheriff’s investigator was conducting shoplifting enforcement on Friday when he was hit by the vehicle of a suspect he was trying to stop.

The investigator was life-flighted to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and is in critical condition.

Twenty-four-year-old Dominick J. Haley was arrested at the scene and charged with assault on a police officer, a Class C violent felony; second degree assault, a Class D felony; and other misdemeanor counts for his role in the incident.

The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Fatiuna Massaline of Ithaca, was arrested on Saturday evening and was charged with assault on a police officer and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Both suspects are now in the Chemung County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 property bond.
