Two parents have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the 2023 death of their two-year-old child.
On July 2nd of last year, the Elmira Police Department, Elmira Fire Department and Erway Ambulance responded to an address on the 400 block of Gaines Street for a report of an unresponsive two-year-old child. Lifesaving measures were performed on the child who was then life-flighted to Rochester.
The child succumbed to his injuries due to complications related to fentanyl intoxication on July 7th, 2023.
A grand jury indicted 44-year-old Lance Townsend and 35-year-old Keyana Townsend on June 24th. Both suspects have been charged with manslaughter in the second degree, a Class C felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor.
The Townsends are being held at the Chemung County Jail pending further court proceedings.
