A motor vehicle accident on I-81 in Susquehanna County has claimed the lives of three people over the weekend. The accident occurred when a tractor trailer rear-ended a minivan with six occupants. Two juvenile passengers, whose names are being withheld, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another occupant, 25-year-old Alicia Stocks of Rockaway, New York, later died at the hospital. The other three occupants are currently being treated for serious injuries. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Following this weekend’s wreck, some area residents are beginning to take note of the number of traffic accidents involving tractor trailers. In the past three months, a total of six motor vehicle accidents involving tractor trailers have taken place in our area. In total, these six accidents have involved 25 vehicles, and left four dead.
While tractor trailer drivers are not at fault in all of these accidents, larger vehicles can certainly add to the severity of a wreck.
Passenger vehicle drivers are reminded to leave extra space when travelling near tractor trailers, and be mindful of blind spots.
