The DOT worker who was badly hurt when his vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer in a construction zone…has died. Dennis Matthew Howe succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The driver of the big rig faces traffic charges but neither the District Attorney nor sheriff were able to provide an update if additional charges were pending. The crash happened on Route 17 in Nichols. The Governor ordered all flags on state buildings to be lowered to
half staff. Gov. Cuomo said he was saddened. He added that since 2006, Howe served DOT Region 9 and the people of New York honorably. As a maintenance worker, Cuomo said Howe was a jack of all trades who was always eager to lend a hand to the team.
