Students at some high schools in Tioga County will learn the truth about the ill effects of drug use starting today thanks to the efforts of a local drug prevention organization. Throughout the week, which is called National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, students get information to debunk common myths and misconceptions about drug abuse. Students at Candor High School will announce a different drug fact each day this week. Across the county at Newark Valley, students will make and display posters on drug facts. Other anti-drug activities are planned at Waverly High School. Organizers said the activities will benefit all teens and their families. Tioga County Allies in Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition and Trinity Casa will host local law enforcement and others to talk about the effects of the heroin and opioid crisis. The meeting is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Nichols.
