Several local events are planned to celebrate Earth Day, which started as a grassroots movement in 1970 to call attention to environmental issues.
Students, faculty and staff at Binghamton University have planned a zero waste festival from 11 am to 3 pm today in the Peace Quad in front of BU’s Administration Building.
As might be expected on this day, the event will include seed planting, recycling races and exhibits from the Binghamton Zoo.
Students at Glenwood Elementary School in Vestal will get a chance to take a look at a BAE Systems HybriDrive bus.
Students from kindergarten through grade five will learn about BAE’s hybrid technology, how it saves fuel and eliminates carbon dioxide emissions.
All students will get a change to enter a “Name the Bus” contest.
