Republican Donald Trump has been elected the 45th President of the United States, and local voters agreed with the national polls.
In Tioga County, Donald Trump won with a majority vote of 60%.
Trump won by a narrower margin in Broome County with 48% of the vote.
A majority 57% of voters in Chemung County also voted in favor of Donald Trump.
Across the Pennsylvania Border, a majority 70% of voters in Bradford County also voted in favor of Trump for President.
Local voters also chose who they wished to represent our area in the United States Congress at the polls yesterday as well.
Incumbent Democratic candidate Charles Schumer won reelection in New York’s US Senate race with 70% of the vote.
In the 23rd US Congressional District of New York, incumbent Republican Tom Reed received a majority 58% of the vote.
Republican Claudia Tenney won the election for the 22nd US Congressional District of New York with 47% of the vote.
In addition to federal elections, numerous state and local elections were held as well.
Incumbent Republican Fred Akshar won reelection to New York’s 52nd State Senate District with a 75% majority,
Incumbent Republican Chris Friend was reelected to New York’s 124th State Assembly District with a 66% majority vote.
And incumbent Democratic candidate Donna Lupardo was reelected to New York’s 123rd State Assembly District with a 63% majority vote.
In Tioga County, Republican Dennis Mullen was elected as County Legislator for District Five with a 53% majority vote.
In Broome County, Jason Garnar was elected as Broome County executive with 55% of the vote.
And in the Town of Union, Rose Sotak was reelected as Town of Union Supervisor by a 53% majority vote.
All voting results are unofficial until certified by the Board of Elections.
