Elmira PD Agrees to Donate Used Vests

The Elmira Police Department is donating used bulletproof vests to other departments.
The city will donate 85 vests to departments across the country that need them but can’t afford them.
The City Council agreed to donate the vests Monday. A vote was needed since they are technically city property.
Mayor John Tonello says the effort not only helps other departments, but will also save the city the cost of shredding and disposing of the used vests.
It will cost $200 to mail them out, a cost that will be covered by a donation from a city resident.
