An Elmira woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for poisoning her stepson.
24-year-old Melissa Englehardt was found guilty of manslaughter for poisoning the 21-month-old boy last November.
Englehardt confessed to the crime in March, saying she put antifreeze in the boy’s sippy cup to try and make him sick so she could blame the boy’s out-of-town mother and gain custody.
Englehardt faces five years of post-release supervision after her prison sentence. Her attorney has already appealed the conviction.
