FEMA has officially committed $5.7 million in funding to Owego Apalachin Central School District for construction after the school district received severe damage during Tropical Storm Lee. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced yesterday that FEMA will give the money toward construction of Owego Apalachin’s administration building. FEMA announced in December 2014 that it would be awarding funding for the relocation of both the administration building and maintenance storage facilities that were damaged in the 2011 storm. However, there were several delays from FEMA from getting the funding out the door, until yesterday. The $5.7 million, is just 75 percent of the $7.69 million total project cost. Senators Schumer and Gilibrand have vowed to continue to push FEMA to get the remaining funding for the overall project.
