Five Cornell Fraternities Now Under Disciplinary Action

Now a total of five Cornell University fraternities are under disciplinary action–the latest two for underage alcohol use. Monday, the University announced that the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity has had its recognition revoked by the school for at least a year for an incident that happened in December, while Phi Kappa Phi fraternity will be under probation for at least four years due to multiple incidents over the past year. Both fraternities are accused of serving alcohol to underage students and encouraging binge drinking. Three other fraternities have also faced sanctions over the past two years. In February of 2011, Sigma Alpha Epsilon was suspended for five years after one of its members died of alcohol poisoning. Last week, the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity was disbanded after a hazing incident and Sigma Pi was placed on interim suspension following an incident at its frat house last May.
