New York Gov. David Paterson is facing a hefty fine for accepting free tickets to last year’s World Series.
The State Commission on Public Integrity has levied a $62,000 fine on the governor for accepting the tickets to the opening game of the 2009 World Series at Yankee Stadium.
Paterson never paid for the tickets, but claims he intended to. They cost $425 each.
The commission says Paterson’s testimony was inaccurate and misleading. They ruled that he violated the Public Officers law, which prohibits a state public official from accepting a gift that could be used in exchange for their influence.
