(Sayre, Pa.) – The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 26th Annual United Valley Business Banquet at the Best Western Grand Victorian Inn in Sayre Wednesday night. The dinner was largely dedicated to the memory of long-time Greater Valley Chamber Executive Director Eleanor Hill who passed away December 29th after running the chamber for 20 years. Also at the dinner, representatives from the area business associations handed out their “Business Person of the Year” Awards. In Athens, the award went to Sarah Brackel of Shea (pronounced Shay) Creations & Company. Sayre selected Rebecca Romig of Realty ONE Group Supreme, and the Waverly Business Association chose to honor the former owner of the Valley Local Heroes Shop and Jayne’s Flowers and Gifts, Mark Phifer Sr.
Elderwood at Waverly won the Community Connected Award. Joe Darrow and the staff at The Grill at the Train Station received the Small Business Hero Award and Kelly McElhaney from Zen Den Yoga and Wellness Center took home the Great Beginnings Award.
There were three nominees for the biggest honor of the evening: the 2021 Greater Valley Chamber Business Member of the Year Award. Owners of the Rail House Restaurant and Tap Room–Josh and Stormy Cassidy, as well as Roberta Coleman–the owner of Stilettos Hair & Nails and Shadowbox Treasures we nominated, but the selection was Ryan Wood and John Thurston of Tanners Bar & Grill for their many philanthropic efforts raising an estimated $600,000 over the years to support local people in need.
