(Sayre, PA) – Long before health care providers step into an operating room, Guthrie is arming them with next-level hands-on training necessary to perform life-saving procedures. In recognition of Healthcare Simulation Week, Guthrie cut the ribbon on the Simulation and Advanced Skills Institute (SASI) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

SASI is a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary training facility supporting physicians, medical and surgical residents, nurses, ancillary staff, and students with the goal of technical expertise and quality patient care.

Educating the next generation of caregivers has been a focal point for the Guthrie Clinic for over a hundred years. With 150 residents and fellows representing 12 accredited programs, we are committed to the patients and communities we serve.

“We believe that Guthrie is a destination – not only for excellent care, but for learning,” said Dr. Robert Kruklitis, EVP, Chief Clinical Officer, The Guthrie Clinic. “We provide tomorrow’s caregivers with an exceptional training experience that cultivates their passion for the delivery of high-quality patient-centered care and becoming leaders in healthcare.

Simulation plays a pivotal role in this learning and discovery by improving patient safety, inspiring confidence, helping us learn from our mistakes, and increasing exposure to uncommon sitsituatio

Guthrie’s approach integrates the use of more than 10 sophisticated simulation devices, outside the operating room, specifically designed to facilitate a more immersive, practical training experience.

Joe Sawyer, SVP, Robert Packer Hospital President, said, “SASI provides a safe learning environment for medical staff to gain proficiency with various skills and techniques in an atmosphere that fosters interprofessional collaboration.”
