With primary elections held Tuesday, one race that had many in the Southern Tier paying attention was won by the incumbent. Representative Richard Hanna defeated Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney in the Republican primary, and with no Democratic opponent in November, is set for another term representing the 22nd Congressional District. The 22nd Congressional District, which includes parts of Tioga and Broome counties, spans eight counties total, and polling closed at nine o’clock last night. While both Hanna and Tenney are Republicans, Tenney was endorsed by the Tea Party. Two years ago, Hanna won the Republican primary in a race against a Tea Party activist from Earleville.
