A portion of Route 38 was closed this morning in Richford after a head-on collision between a tractor trailer and a minivan. It was reported around 8:45am on the section of highway just north of its intersection with Route 79. The driver of the minivan had to extricated from the vehicle and transported from the scene by a life-flight helicopter. Richford Fire Department responded to the accident, along with ambulances from Maine and Bangs, and members of both the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police. A hazmat team was also called to the scene. The investigation continues into the cause of the crash. Neither driver has been identified.
