An inmate of the Chemung County jail was able to briefly escape while he was being transported by a corrections officer. Around 10 o’clock Friday night, Courtney Cade was being transported from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center back to jail after receiving medical treatment.
During the drive to the jail, deputies say Cade kicked out the side window of the sheriff’s vehicle and jumped head-first from the vehicle, which was traveling south on Walnut Street in Elmira. Cade was caught by the corrections officer following a brief foot chase. His ankles and hands were still shackled, preventing him from getting very far. Cade had been sentenced to three years in state prison and scheduled to be transferred later this week. Criminal charges for his escape attempt are pending.
